Blog: Jo’s Rings

The holiday period went great, thanks for asking. I’m glad to say my glasses have finally returned to normal. Attitude said it was a weak and pretty sloppy spell (she DID cast it in anger), so it wasn’t going to last very long. If you ask me, it lasted too long. Sure, there were some upsides (like seeing what a LOT of hot chicks looked like under their layers of winter clothing), but when it comes to work colleagues (or chubby folks shopping at Wal-Mart), I found out a lot more than I would have wanted.

Didn’t think I’d see Jo before coming back to work, but Martine & her had a few nights out. We did run into each other when I dropped Martine off to meet with her, but we didn’t chat much. From what Martine told me, she admitted to having the rings, but didn’t seem too enthusiastic about it. If it’s typical faerie magic, I’m guessing she can’t take them off and that probably freaks her out a little. Should I approach her about what I know, and tell her about faeries in general? That might freak her out more. Also, it might bring to light the fact that I know about the rings and raise questions about HOW I found out. Don’t know if I want to go there…

  1. I’m surprised Attitude admitted to doing something poorly…

    1. I left out the part where she asked me how long it lasted. She was surprised when I said over two weeks, she thought it’d be gone after a week.

But maybe that says more about her power than her skill…

      1. Hmm. She may be collecting data on how long she can torment you with indirect curses…

By the by, Martine must be pretty slick to get that kind of admission out of Jo. Especially when the rings appeared by magic.

        1. And I use the term ‘slick’ purely as a compliment.

        2. Ha. I see what you did there.

        3. I don’t. ^^;

        4. It’s unlikely Attitude is doing anything like that. It’s far too scientific an approach for a faerie. They’re as un-scientific as it gets. It’s kind of funny, it’s as if NOT knowing anything about science and reality, they just do their own thing, and the outcome they want occurs. I think if they DID understand the world and the laws of physics, faeries would lose their power.

But that’s just me speculating. What I’m confident about, though, is Attitude NOT collecting data. Her answer to your comment would be “Why should I care? I can always cast a new curse.”

        5. Kind of reminds me of the faeries of ‘Chasing the Sunset’.

I miss that comic. :-/ Shame it suddenly fell silent.

Anyhoo. Seems you’re lucky, then. A faerie with an ability to focus on more than the immediate now and plan a campaign would probably be an unholy terror.

        6. Planning is a very human trait. This is why we’re so good at what we do (which includes using faeries to nefarious ends). It’s a good thing faeries aren’t good at it, I agree; what’s scary is the thought of a sociopathic human with one or more faeries serving him…

        7. Well… there’s always the chance of backlash when the faeries find a reason to stop serving…

        8. Faeries don’t willingly *serve* humans. This generally happens because they shared their name with them out of gratitude, and they become bound to them. Once that happens, it’s for life, they never “opt out” of it.

        9. … It’s so rare for me to feel sorry for the little whatsits.

  2. You could always blame your knowledge of her rings on Martine being a blabber mouth…

    1. That would probably not be conducive to interpersonal relations.

      1. Nah, he could just say that Martine was just discussing with him on getting nipple rings and accidently slipped that Jo had some.

I wonder if Jo is someone like Jaycee who has fairies hanging out with them and cursing them repeatedly and such.

        1. You don’t think that would make Jo much more careful about what she shares with Martine?
