Question to Members

Hi Members,

I’m not sure how many of you are actually reading the Scripts & Roughs page. In the last several months, I’ve gotten into the habit of posting sketches & previews of the final art of a strip in the blog section, which I felt was more easily accessible than the page. You’ve all been silent, which is either a sign of great satisfaction or dissatisfaction. So here are a few questions that I’d like you to answer in the comments section, if you don’t mind.

  1. Do you generally go to the Scripts & Roughs page or do you prefer the blog posts?
  2. Do you read the scripts or just look at the sketches?
  3. Do you watch the videos of Wondollar at work?

All of these things take up time and if there’s no real interest in them, I’d rather invest that time in something else. Naturally, if this is something you all think is worth keeping, I’m not going to touch any of it–I just want to make sure you get your money’s worth out of these features.

UPDATE 1: the feedback seems to go mostly in one direction: while some of you do go to the Scripts & Roughs page, you all pretty much find the blog posts to be more convenient (it’s RSS friendly). Almost none of you watch the videos, so we’ll probably stop publishing those. For the scripts, sketches and previews, I’ll be moving exclusively to a post-based method, which is pretty much what I was doing already anyway. The old page will remain there as an archive.

UPDATE 2: I’ve been tinkering with how I could improve the presentation of the scripts in the new format. One of the challenges I have is that I do a LOT of updates using my iPad, so I had to find a way to manipulate the scripts (which are in a proprietary format) and convert them into images. Having finally found a way to do that, I’ve modified the sneak peeks for #254 and #255 to show what it would look like. Go check them out, I think you’ll find it to be a big improvement.

Thanks,

–Jaycee

  1. 1. I do go to the Scripts & Roughs page occasionally, but since you post them on the blog I don’t usually have to.
    2. Both.
    3. Usually no. I’m not a drawer so the process doesn’t interest me so much.

  2. I look at the roughs now and then, and sometimes a script, but not the videos, no.

  3. 1. I prefer the blog posts just because they update in my RSS feed easier.
    2. Both.
    3. Videos? Didn’t know there were any.

    1. Looks like that’s 3 out of 3 so far… If the trend continues, I don’t think it’s something I’ll keep up. Takes up Wondollar’s time, my time (to put up) and may not be all that exciting to people…

  4. I go to the Scripts and Roughs to look at the old stuff once and a while, I just look at the sketches, I don’t watch the videos

  5. 1. I don’t go to that page because you post them on the blog.
    2.Both
    3.I don’t watch the videos

  6. For those who might be interested, I’m trying a new format, all-in-1 post that would end up containing the script, then the sketch, then the preview.

Let me know what you think.

  7. 1. I don’t go to the page. I just check the blog.
    2. Both
    3. I don’t watch the videos.

I like the new format. Keep up the good work! 🙂

  8. I like the new format!

    1: Now and then.
    2: Both
3: Not an artist, so I don’t watch the videos. Another reason is I have limited daily download allowance (it’s a bummer) 🙁

  9. 1, I used to check it constantly, but the blog posts are a much easier way to see what’s been updated now, so I haven’t been there in some time.

2, I check the most recent thing that’s been posted to the site, so if only the script has been posted since the last time I visited, then I read the script. If the script and the sketch have been posted, I’ll usually only check out the sketch.

3, I don’t really have time these days to watch the videos.

  10. 1. I don’t view the previews because I just enjoy the final product. However, blog via RSS is the way I consume your stuff.
    2. Neither
    3. I don’t watch the videos, but I am aware of them.

  11. 1. I really like the Scripts and Roughs Page so I can always find them If I gone and don’t get the site and miss it in a blog post.
    2. I read the scripts, roughs and final’s for every Comic.
    3. very seldom, I don’t draw and have no talent for drawing.

  12. 1. I go to both, though the blog posts are my preferred method
    2. I read the scripts and I also read the roughs
    3. Watched the first few seconds of one video, haven’t watched any since.

  13. I have looked at the scripts etc. on a few occasions but wouldn’t miss them if they weren’t there. I’d rather see more of the side stories if it’s one or the other.

    1. I don’t plan on removing the scripts, I think they kind of add a little something to the site–and now that I’ve found an easy way to include them in the sneak peek blog articles, it’ll help give members a sense that they get the story before everybody else.

But it looks like the videos are gonna go, almost no one seems to be watching them.

  14. I go to the scripts and roughs every time I’m here. That way I get to check out all the changes and updates.

  15. Actually, I noticed the scripts and roughs went away some time ago – I liked it, I miss it. I particularly liked seeing non-members making predictions of how it was all going to play out and I quietly would smile to myself knowing otherwise. The videos are interesting but yeah, having seen a couple of dozen – not sure I’d watch that many more – but…

    1. My thinking was that by having the scripts, sketches, and previews in a blog post instead of on a page, that it would actually foster more discussions about the storyline then the other way around. My secret hope is that these conversations will give non-members motivation to try a membership for a little while.

  16. I guess I’ll throw in my two cents on the matter 😀

    1. I generally check Both and now Patreon for updates 😀

    2. Both Honestly usually the script if its out first too get a feel of what the strip will be about before the sketch. Though there hasn’t been much updates.

3.Occasionally….if it ever gets posted up now and again >.<

    1. How do you feel about the new format, with the scripts, then the sketches, then the final version appearing all in the same, updated blog post?

      1. Seems alright 😀 no problems so far
