  1. A side of Heather we not seen, self truth, and I wonder what will happen.

    1. Well there’s already one or two guys who aren’t after wealth, power, or influence…she’s just been too self absorbed to notice the poor guys.

      1. Not sure, now it just seems she assume all are, and is blinded to someone will help.

  2. interesting keep it up

  3. Okay, maybe if the gnat does something good for Heather, might stop calling her a well-stacked gnat

  4. Unfortunately, that seems to be the way with a lot of really attractive people, specially women, but no one ever believes that someone that attractive could ever be lonely (because people tend to think ‘being lonely’ is the same as ‘being alone’, and attractive people are never alone, so how could they possibly be lonely?)

    1. It’s a bit of a nasty cycle actually because in some cases, the attractive person brings it on themselves because of their attitude. It’s hard to tell what started it first whether it was their arrogance/attitude that just pushed people away and made the person feel lonely or if it was the attractive person was used and then developed the arrogance/attitude.

The Lurker is a prime example of this because he does worship the ground she walks on without seeing her as a way to gain wealth or power, yet she pushed him away and was a bitch to him after she slept with him.

In the case of Heather, it’s probably the latter example of being used once or something or was warned of it by her parents. I think this mainly because of her position of being a princess.

      1. Being nobility in general puts you in the place where everything you do is scrutinized while overall you’re very much at a distance from those around you. And politics is a huge part of your life, consider Victoria very carefully married off her children to promote political alliances and produce stability in Europe, while she herself had been manipulated a lot while younger to try to make her a puppet for her mother and the advisor that taught her.

“Being nobility in general puts you in the place where everything you do is scrutinized while overall you’re very much at a distance from those around you.”

Or as the Duke Atreadies told his son Paul, “Son, we live in a world where self-interest governs everything.” That’s very true, because they also have to “distance themselves” from society in general *because* of those who would only exploit them for their wealth & influence.

It’s a vicious self-inflicted cycle imposed by politics…Those who live by politics frequently die by politics.

        2. Yeah but then look at why the Atreides were destroyed, they were a popular and accessible great house (Leto was much loved by his people, as was Paulus in his own way before him), coupled with being extremely capable fighters and Paul was considered suitable for Mentat training.

Speaking of which, I wonder how the quest for spiders goes…

    2. It works other way too. One could be mostly alone, yet hardly ever lonely.

      1. Even those who enjoy being alone, still get lonely for someone to spend the aloneness with 🙁

  5. Given the fairy’s other “solutions” this is going to be an abyssmal failure and it’s going to be Heather’s fault rather than the being actually responsible.

  6. Heather looks set for another makeover, and it could go either way.

  7. As character developing and almost pitiable that sounds I can’t really give her any sort of sympathy and it’s not because I hate her character. On the contrary I love her character, with all of the princesses out there she’s refreshing.

I do not doubt that it may be true that some might see her merely as an object to to gain power but then I’m reminded of Duke Aidan and her statement just sounds like self-pitying BS.

  8. The Phantom's Belch

Uh-oh. Busty’s got a Look[tm] on her face. This can only lead to much hilarity (in our fourth wall POV), and I suspect much embarrassment amongst the castle denizens.

But really, what do the folks in and about the castle know about Heather? She’s 1) a spoiled brat to her kid brother, 2) drop dead gorgeous and knows it, 3) a screamer in the sack, 4) apparently bisexual, and 5) has attracted the attention of a faerie. (Okay, 3 and 4 could be attributed to 5, but I have to wonder just how much Busty had to “influence” Heather for many of these scenarios.) We haven’t really seen many of her interests; the only thing I can recall is her liking the leather look the mirror cooked up for her. There was quilting in an earlier strip, but is that genuinely Heather’s interest or just expected of her due to her station?

    1. Four year making the strip and I think it’s the first time someone expresses in interest in the “real” Heather. 😉

      1. Well to be fair, this comic isn’t deep and focused on feelings and you didn’t exactly hint at Heather being more than what we saw in past strips.

        1. It’s a fair comment, I admit. Can’t say I’ve really set this up to have depth, and the few times that it has were really unexpected (even for me, yes).

But when you did include the emotional depth, it was well-timed & appropriate to the circumstances.

        3. It’s always entertaining when your characters do something unexpected . . .

  9. Oh dear lord, EVERYONE TAKE FUCKING COVER!

  10. Or the other way the next installment could go is the faerie shakes her head vigorously and goes “what’s wrong with me, I’m getting *way* more emotionally invested in this human’s problems than I meant to” before going off to make the clothing of random people in the marketplace come to life right on their bodies.

  11. OR, we suddenly get the Bloomin’ Faeries version of “The Prince(ss) and the Pauper”. She’s a knock out peasant who has to turn tricks as a bar wench… and gets ‘noticed’… now for her attributes and not her royal-ness. wait… guess that’s Baby’s gig… nvm.

  12. I’m even more interested to see the next strip…

I’m going to bet they’re going to pull a reverse Aladdin…the faerie will turn her into a peasant.

    1. It’s a good guess, but not quite. Close, though.

      1. The Phantom's Belch

My money is on Heather-the-Castle-Maid, then. 😉

        1. Ah, if ONLY you had access to the members’ area…

          (Yeah, cheap plug, I know… 😉 )

        2. Problem with that: Prince Albert

        3. Not sure I follow…

        4. The Phantom's Belch

Don’t worry, Busty will do something about that. Something amusing, no doubt.

        5. Al and Marie had a ‘thing’, even if he believed it to be a dream, he drew a picture of her (was replying to The Phantom’s Belch)
