  1. Is that… the blonde meanie?
Talk about instant karma; she lead the Lurker to the giant parasite spider’s den snd it looks like it got her. o_o

    1. Frankly, not much of a consolation at this point.
But if she manages to save me at the same time, I’ll be fore than happy to forgive and forget.

      1. Considering the stinkgnats’ default attitude towards humans …. well …. :-/

  2. Is that the same one that turned the Sorcerer female?

    1. Sure looks like it.

  3. Not certain ANY actions taken by Yellow Fairy was enough to warrant such a destroyed body. I hope they can save ‘Busty’ before she is damaged in any degree!

    1. Well, if she knew this creature was here, she deliberately lead the Lurker into its clutches.

      1. Not all faerie plans work out to their advantage.

        1. Of course. Not even faerie magic can overcome Sod’s Law, as augmented by Finagle’s Law. 😉

      2. To be fair, I was looking for spiders.

It’s not fun being a zombie, but looking at how she ended up, I think she got her comeuppance.

And whatever she has in mind, if it frees me from Shelob, I’m all for it.

  4. The Phantom's Belch

The way the image focuses on Crystal, I’m not sure I’ll like the Blonde Meanie’s plan any more than Spunky. I mean, I’m not sure if Crys is really a “good” person or not, but no one deserves what the Spider will do.

  5. So we have the Busty fairy we know survives but probably doesn’t deserve to

The blue haired one that nobody cares about

The insufferable cousin who who when confronted with her own impending mortality decided to spend her remaining few days tormenting as many people as possible

The blonde fairy who got caught in her own trap

Who here am I meant to be rooting for? Right now the spider seems like the most honest person on the page. Or possibly the palace errand boy that he is puppeting but honestly how cares about him.

    1. You do remember that the ‘cousin’ was a faerie in disguise, so tormenting other was her natural state (and it actually helped her return to her true form)

      1. Raised as a human with the values of the culture that she grew up in.

Also saying that being needlessly cruel helped her return to her natural state of being a creature that is naturally needlessly cruel only highlights the need for some sort of final solution, as they are so incapable of changing their ways. Preferably involving spiders.

I’m sorry, but intensely disliking people who are sadistic and take joy in spreading suffering indiscriminately is my natural state.

    2. > Who here am I meant to be rooting for?

      Me!

  6. Just from the way spider’s holding that guy with it’s legs between his legs, I keep expecting it to whip open his legs and exclaim loudly, ‘BEHOLD! FEAST YOUR EYES UPON HIS MORTAL JUNK!’ and then I dont know what happens next but I assume it has something to do with his package.

  7. Damn. That monster is easily the creepiest thing I’ve seen. Wizards of the Coast needs to pay you money so that can be in the new AD&D V.5 Monster Manual.

Or Guilliermo Del Toro needs to pay you to have that in his next film. It’s that creepy

    1. Amusingly enough, this monster is something I cooked up in a D&D campaign 10+ years ago.

      1. How did your players react?

        1. The arachnophobic female player in the group was NOT pleased. 🙂

What was sneakier (on my part) was that the spider’s legs were all joined at the carrier’s sternum, so from a distance, it just looked like a backpack. It’s when they got closer (there were many of these creatures) that the party realized what it was, and the creep factor shot up. And then there was initiative and much slaughter and much terror.

        2. I can imagine! ^_^
So, should we call this creature a “Backpack Spider”?

        3. I don’t remember what I called it, it’s a really long time ago. Backpack Spider is as good a name as any. 🙂

        4. Two words.

          Empowered Fireball.

For when you absolutely have to kill every MOTHERFUCKING CREATURE IN THE ROOM!!!!!!!!!

        5. Empowered Maximized Intensified Fireball.

    2. Ever heard of the Cordyceps fungus? It’s a fungus that attacks insects, infiltrating their body and brain, driving them mad. Eventually, it kills the insect, eats it and then violently breaks through its body near the head in tentacle forms, dispersing spores to infect any other insects that dare come close.

      And it exists for real!

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordyceps

So yeah that spider doesn’t even rate at top ten. Is the Yellow Fairy own fault for messing with spiders.

And yeah is hard to find someone to root for in this comic, maybe Mirror and the Horse? Mirror seemed pretty chill having been a mirror for a long time, and the talking horse too. In fact the closest we ever get to outright good is the poor horse! Although Mirror doesn’t even remember her own name so her curse must have been quite nasty and lasted for ages.

Plus this is a flashback so we know Busty survived. If Crystal dies, so what? Just the fact she was really a fairy doesn’t mean we should feel sad.

If anything we should blame the other fairies who didn’t notice for over twenty years that one of their own needed help. Virgin “brainwashing” or not, how come they had to point it to them to notice that she was dying?

So you see, is not humans being mean and pulling out fairy wings, if anything that fairy was lucky to not be outright killed right away, is fairies being too stupid or their own good.

      1. Okay, we need an awakened version of that and we need to carpet bomb the Chicago Containment Zone with that

        #Shadowrun

  8. A curve I would have thrown in was that it was a symbiotic relationship and the party were in the wrong for killing them. let the threads run from that rash action through different story lines, dungeons and reactions in cities and bars.

    1. That would have been a good twist. I might use that I my current campaign, especially since I have another arachnophobe in the group… >:-)

      1. Which system are you using?

        1. 5th edition

          –Jaycee
          “I’m doing it.”

        2. Is it good? I mean, it has to be better than 4th.

        3. I never bothered with 4th, even though I bought it. Stayed on the shelves for years. 5th did it for me. Fixed a number of things that always bothered me, simplified play and character creation, and introduced cool mechanics that favored players. Good enough to get me to DM again, even though I stopped 10 years ago.

          “I’m doing it.”

        4. Hmm. If finances allow, I may have to pick up a 5th ed. book sometime. I’m pretty invested in Pathfinder, though; lots of fun options!

  9. On one hand this is a terrible fate for any creature, but on another, these fairies have been messing with humans since day one, it is kind of fitting that some monster starts messing with them.

  10. With all these mean-spirited comments towards the faeries as of late, I think I better stay clear for a bit, because Attitude is going to be very busy zapping those troublemakers.

I hope I’m not on your target list, Attitude…

    1. Fairies weakness? True virgins and spiders. Virgins is just mind control, spiders eat them… if they are lucky. Otherwise is torture as long as they can eat you little by little then finally death.

Who was who lead that guy to a cave of spiders? Who didn’t care to make him forget finding spiders? A fairy.

So really is hard to pity the fairies for being stupid. If this had been a real true random encounter then maybe there would be more pity and compassion going on.

  11. So Jaycee, how long were you planning this to happen to the Blonde Meanie?

  12. Is the fairy who cursed Thane returning? Or is it the one we see the most? (I am a bit confused about that, they look pretty similar but she always says that thane is an other fairy doing)
